Burger Day Nine, Kids Helping Kids!

At 2:30 pm on April 21st and April 22nd, the Glenview's Plaza Del Prado McDonald’s and the Winnetka McDonald's hosted four rival high schools that came together joining forces to raise money for RMHC-CNI at Burger Day Nine. Teens from Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, New Trier and Loyola schools, worked together to raise money through corporate presentations for sponsorships, t-shirt sales and taking orders in the parking lot for one-dollar hamburgers during the event. All money raised went directly to the RMHC-CNI. The 2012 team took Burger Day to a whole new level, raising $56,000, exceeding their goal. Burger Day has grown adding two new schools; New Trier and Loyola, to the team for 2012. The final count was 500 burgers ordered at Plaza and 112 at Winnetka. Inside the restaurant there was also a Burger Day Eating Challenge. On day one the GBS team ate 52 burgers at Plaza, and won the contest. On day two the Loyola team ate 54 burgers at Winnetka, and won over New Trier. The winners’ names will go on a beautiful Burger Day Nine Trophy. Congratulations to all, but most of all congratulations to the amazing teenagers that organized the entire event. Burger Day team members stated Burger Day is "a passion, a desire, a dream, and great time”. Members of the 2012 Burger Team were Josh Tolmatsky, Mike Kessler, Evan Marinis, Johnny Cowhey, John Friesen, Jordan Sacks, Jacobe Wolfe, Brendan Hulseman, and Michael Nash. These nine gentlemen are truly amazing. At the end of the day it was all about kids helping kids. Mark your calendars for Burger Day Ten in 2013. The Burger Day Team and the local McDonald’s Glenview and Winnetka owner/operators Mark and Jenny Freeman sponsored this event.
