The punishment for breaking into someone's home should be immediate execution publically....soon enough the problem would cease.....the liberal politically correct " bleeding heart " approach is going to be the end of us all...

They need to implement a law that allows homeowners to shoot tresspassers, even before they enter the home... With such a law implemented, there would be ZERO burglaries.

Illinois is the poster child for liberalism. Don't be shocked if they implement a law that says you have to feed and house a burglar that you catch in your home. And pay a re-housing tax on them too.

Having been a victim of burglary, I can understand anger, but lets get real here. Especially during bad economic times it has been going on since the beginning of time.
Maybe we should be better at neighborhood watch groups and maybe the judges should impose stricter sentences. Maybe we should not just vote party line with judges and vote sentencing records. Maybe we bonus those officers of the law who do arrest and get convicted a thief.
Some of previous comments sound like just using another topic to rant about politics or a reason to shoot people. Hope you don't shoot the boys scouts when they are on your porch.
It would be nice if all of us followed the golden rule or 10 commandments.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but let's be honest too: of course politics plays a role in this, as well as any potential remedies one may offer. Why? Because our political belief systems are rooted in the other overriding beliefs we hold. You posit one such core beliefs at the beginning of your post: poor economics or poverty causes crime.
Not only do many, such as myself, reject this idea, but we are keenly aware of how belief in it influences political policy. For instance, if poverty - and not values - causes people to act immorally, then erasing the poverty via social services and wealth redistribution will reverse the trend. Historically, this has not proven true....or, at the very least hasn't been the case since "the beginning of time."
Oddly, crime rates dropped to its lowest national levels since the early 60s over the past recession.
