Glenview may be in for some major golf excitement if the North Shore Country Club can snag a hosting title for the Champions Tour next June.

The Club is a front-runner to host the event, Crain’s Chicago Business reported Tuesday.

The news follows recent disappointment for North Shore, just months after Conway Farms was picked to host the 2012 BMW Championships.

Evanston Golf Club is also under consideration for the Champions, a tour comprising players from the 50+ age group including big timers like Tom Watson, Fred Couples, Jay Haas, Fred Funk and Tom Lehman.

Sponsor Encompass Insurance (a division of Allstate) said they plan to take the tournament to Chicago in 2013 and “beyond,” Crain’s reports.
