Longtime resident Lee Roy Hartung's impressive auto collection included a 1949 BMW Veritas, a 1959 Edwards R-26 Roadster and a 1913 Flying Merkel Twin motorcycle.

In the last week, vintage car and motorcycle enthusiasts converged on Glenview from across the country and around the globe for the auction of Lee Roy Hartung's extensive auto collection. Hartung, who worked as a scrap dealer, amassed his trove of treasures over five decades.

Much of the collection was acquired from the local area, like a museum-worthy motorcycle. The five-day event consisted of two days of previews followed by one day devoted to parts, one day devoted to motorcycles, and the final day focused on cars and other large vehicles.

Hartung's lontime partner Marjorie Cox decided to part with the vast collection after Lee Roy passed away in May. He had intended to have the collection housed in a private museum.
