Members of the McAndrews, Greiss, and Bonk families ran as a group with yellow caps that read “McGronk”, a combination of their three last names. Many familes and friends ran the 5k together, getting a little exercise before their Thanksgiving feasts.

When Ken Kraus launched the Tall Trees Turkey Trot 14 years ago, roughly 20 people showed up. This year, under cloudy skies and misty rain, approximately 600 runners toed the line in the 5k annual race.

The trot benefits Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook, a local organization dedicated to the mental health, character development and physical well-being of local children and families. Held in the Tall Trees neighborhood of Glenview, the race helps support afterschool programs, family counseling, study buddies and a holiday gift service, among other programs. Last year's run earned $11,700 in support of the Youth organization.
