International Artist Kurt Webb has spent more than two decades at GBS and was recently named 2012’s Distinguished Teacher by the Parents’ Association.

A well-known Chinese proverb shares the value of teaching through engagement: “Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand."

At Glenbrook South, ceramics teacher, mentor and admired international artist Kurt Webb has been involving—and inspiring—students for more than 20 years. The Parents’ Association recently named Webb the 2012 Distinguished Teacher.

Known for his professional dedication, with his time in the classroom often extending into weekends, Webb is a tireless advocate of the arts who has studied and taught around the globe.

His work is represented in several publications and permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Library in Australia and the National Library of Scotland.

“To be recognized as the Parent’s Association Distinguished Teacher begins with students going out of their way to show that a teacher has made a significant and meaningful contribution in their life,” Webb said.  “Knowing this has occurred with my students is humbling, gratifying and profound.”
