Morrison Takes Senate Seat Wednesday

Deerfield’s Julie Morrison replaces Lake Forest’s Susan Garrett as area’s state senator.

State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) took her seat in the 98th Illinois General Assembly today after being sworn into office fully aware of the seriousness of the job facing her yet honored to be part of the process.

“The gravity of the fiscal uncertainty I will be facing is tempering the excitement I feel,” Morrison said Tuesday on her way to Springfield.

Morrison will replace former state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest) whose retirement became official at noon today when Morrison took her seat.

Concentrating on job creation, economic development and a business friendly economic climate, Morrison also considers the environment, especially the protection of Lake Michigan, a priority, according to a news release. She is also eager to begin the term.

“I am so honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of the 29th District and all the people of Illinois,” Morrison said in the release. “I am eager to get to work to address the needs and concerns of constituents and the challenges facing our state.”

Morrison’s district office will be at 700 Osterman Ave. in Deerfield. Constituents who need to contact her can stop by or call 847-945-5200.

Before entering the State Senate, Morrison served as the West Deerfield Township supervisor for more than 15 years.

"Concentrating on job creation, economic development and a business friendly economic climate ...."

And then they vote in the same "leadership" that's created the mess that hurts " job creation, economic development and a business friendly economic climate."

Oh well, it's obvious that the majority of voters in this area prefer the political landscape we've had for the last several decades and want to keep it in place.

Actually she'll be a Sen. President John Cullerton pawn since she's a State Senator. Rep. Drury will be a Madigan pawn. Although, every Democratic politician in the State is ultimately answerable to Madigan.

Daniel, with all due respect, Scott Drury will be no pawn of Madigan. He will prove to be a powerful voice and not fold to the all mighty Madigan. Drury is an extremely intelligent and tough guy, give him the opportunity to change the disaster.

So, Cullerton is elected President of the Senate, wants to clean up the Illinois Political reputation, and appoints Donne Trotter as an Assistant Majority Leader. Trotter the racist? http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Donne-Want-A-Cracker-183504091.html. Trotter the Gun Control advocate? http://thegrio.com/2012/12/30/donne-trotter-cites-gun-charges-in-ending-house-race/. If Morrison and Drury want marching orders, they shouldn't take them from Cullerton and Madigan. They promised change and they'll have to ignore their leadership which will be very difficult, seeing as how they voted to put te leadership in charge.

This sounds like bitter diatribe. Let's assume that Julie is an independent thinker, has high ethical standards and a desire to move state government forward while working with people on both sides of the aisle. When she has achieved a record you can then reassess her performance.
Otherwise what you all have written is pretty much name calling.

Congratulations to Julie. Progressive Leglislative progress can be made with a veto proof Senate and Assembly.

Great, higher taxes, more debt, higher unemployment, less new business. The Progressive way!

Mac, do you ever have anything new to say? Have you started sleeping again after the Obama Victory? You'll get your chance again in 2016, but Hillary will win then and in 2020 but keep those right wing eyes set on 2024! That's the year! Cubs too!

Whoa, you are getting ahead of yourself there. The state of IL is already broke, CA left the cliff years ago, and the feds are almost there. Obama passed a tax increase, that should cover the Sandy relief bill, so with the fire hose out control spending, soon there will be a snap in the financial markets, they can't sustain it. Its anyone's guess if the country remains as it is anymore,

Julie I voted for you after you came back to my door when at first I told your husband I was not sure if I was voting for you. I believed you when you said you were independent and would not be a pawn. Now is the time to act. Good Luck.

Julie, Trust you will do the right thing as you cant be any worse that Garrett. Stop the nonsense with the Madigan cult and get Illinois back to where it needs to be. By the way is the governor retarded or does he just try to sound this way? Maybe you can get his to relieve some pressure on his little brain.

It's fun to see the freaks of the now defunct GOP lose the rest of there brains here. The Dems must be doing something right to piss off the less educated here. Go Dems!
