New Trier Alum Pulls Prank on Fox News

North Shore native Max Rice was featured on 'Fox & Friends' as an unemployed college graduate who is changing his vote from Barack Obama to Mitt Romney, which is not true.

Max Rice was supposed to provide a face to a Fox News story about disenfranchised young American voters; instead the New Trier alum pulled a prank on national television, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Gretchen Carlson of Fox & Friends introduced Rice as having voted for Obama in 2008, but now unemployed will be changing his support by voting for Mitt Romney in the upcoming presidential election.

When Carlson asked why Rice will be voting for Romney, the Glencoe native replied, “It’s actually a funny story. I lost a basketball game to a friend of mine … who’s a huge supporter of this show.”

Watch the interview in the video by clicking above.

Rice failed to answer the questions directly and Carlson ends up ending the interview by telling him, "I'm not sure you're ready for prime time."

It turns out the 20-year-old is actually a current Columbia College student who was not even old enough to vote in 2008, according to CBS Chicago.

“I don’t care if there’s any negative press about me. I think there’s a greater issue,” Rice told Talking Points Memo. “Our media should be a tool to educate the masses, instead of getting ratings and selling Cheetos. This is proof.”

The New Trier alum was elected president of his 2010 senior class, according to the Chicago Tribune

Just another classic example of not believing everything you see/hear via the media. Clearly they didn't validate anything before putting him on tv! I say good for him...funny too!!

Spot on. Any exposure of the statist media's shortcomings is a good thing. Mockery of the same is even better.

More like just another classic example of a trust fund baby from a wealthy upbringing with nothing better to do than to waste peoples time. He wasn't old enough to vote in 2008 and he isn't mature enough to vote now.

Typical behavior from a New Trier brat.... And to think, as class president that's the best they thought they had? Frightening. If I were his parents or friends I would be embarrassed but much like the young lady above, class will tell.

Oh dear, I see Willard fans are upset that someone much younger has the talent and ability to outsmart the terribly dull and desperate Fox propagandists. I am sure that if he had filled Carlson's expectations, you both be praising him and his wealthy parents. Its sort of funny and ironic that Donna talks about Max being a New Trier brat while Chris makes reference to his being a "trust fund baby". I thought Romney lovers love the rich and their children. Hmmmm . . . odd.

.I make no claim as to whether the young man outsmarted anyone, who he may support in either the 2008 or 2012 election or any indication as to whom I may or may not support. My comment stems from the fact that he used a public medium to entertain himself and his other 18 year old buddies lying on public television, wasting other people's time and embarrassing himself and his family simultaneously. If his claim had been true and not a lie, then there wouldn't be a story now would there? My comment addresses only his behavior, not his political beliefs. As for the "New Trier brats", it is my personal opinion that Many, certainly not all, New Trier kids live in a created reality and in my experience have little regard for others which I think is a shame. Regardless of their political affiliations, truthfulness and respect for others should be a part of their belief system; clearly, at least for is young man, those are traits he does not have.

Wasting people's time??? If you are watching FOX News, you are wasting your time to begin with, listening to outright lies and right-wing propaganda. He didn't embarrass himself. The only thing to be embarrassed about is admitting to watching FOX News and believing anything they say.

Regardless of the kids intention I think the bigger issue is why a national media outlet didn't take the time and effort to do, what seems to be, a simple fact check. Where does their responsibility lie when reporting?

"Where does their responsibility lie when reporting?"

Their responsibility is to be accurate stenographers for the government.

Of course a stenographer wouldn't give the source the option to approve a quote before publishing. There has to be a better characterization than stenographer. Lapdog?

You're clearly missing the point. This whole write up is pointing out the open mockery of the media because of their inability to check out basic facts, in the search for a story that will fit their narrative. I mean, it shows the system as a joke on its face.

"I thought Romney lovers love the rich and their children. Hmmmm . . . odd."
lol Sheldon.... great points there too.

"he used a public medium to entertain himself and his other 18 year old buddies
*lying on public television*"

Do you actually watch Fox News? I really don't think you do.

What actual journalism might look like:

Follow-up could be better but this is still light years ahead of our normal statist media.

This guy misrepresented himself and all he did was to prove that Fox News simply took him at his word for what and who he said he was. An honest mistake that any news outlet could make.

Compare that to the heroes who misrepresented themselves to Acorn, and all they did was to blow the lid off Acorn's corruption, fraud, and abetting criminal activity.

There is no comparison.

Mr. Rice just comes off as a self-absorbed child who thinks he's funny and wants to prove it.

And this high school class president believes that the news media's job is to EDUCATE the masses. For some reason, Pravda comes to mind.

"There is no comparison."

So why did you make one?
