Unincorporated Cook Co Residents: Sticker Deadline is July 1

Residents have until July 1 to buy wheel tax stickers or pay double.

Residents of unincorporated Cook County, including Northfield Township, who own a car or a cycle, listen up. You have until July 1 to put a new vehicle sticker on your vehicle.

If you have a business in unincorporated Cook County and keep a vehicle there, you have to get one as well.

If you don't have one by July 1, expect a bit of sticker shock.

Stickers are available for purchase from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Northfield Township office, 3801 W. Lake Ave., Glenview.

They are also available online through the County's Department of Revenue.

A $5 processing fee is charged at township office and online.

The cost is:

  • XSV for small passenger vehicles, $80. Cars in this category are 4,500 pounds and under.
  • XLV for larger passenger vehicle, $100.00. Cars in this class are 4,500 or larger. (See PDF for XLV models).
  • MB for motorcycle, $50
  • NF, or no vehicle sticker fee for seniors over 65, the physically disabled, disabled veterans and municipal cars.

Seniors who purchased a sticker in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 or 2011 and own the same vehicle are not required to purchase a new one.

Here's the rub: if you don't get one mounted on your car, you'll have to pay a fine equal to the price of the sticker, or $25, whichever is greater.

For more information or to verify if you need to purchase a sticker, call Northfield Township at 847-724-8300.
