POLL: Willow Road Expanding to Four Lanes

The Village of Northfield recently approved widening Willow Road to four lanes in an effort to reduce congestion between Waukegan Road and the Edens Expressway.

On Monday, the Northfield village board approved an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation to widen Willow Road to four lanes by the spring of 2013.

Issues have included severe congestion between Waukegan Road and the Edens Expressway making rushhour commutes especially difficult for motorists traveling from area burbs including Glenview.

Additionally, nearby residents have reported motorists speeding through local neighborhoods to find a way around heavy traffic.

A 30 mph speed limit would be implemented and pedestrian sidewalks will be installed on both sides of the road as part of the $35-million project.
