Mandatory Drug Testing Will Dilute Legalization of Marijuana

By now I'm sure you have heard about the legalization of marihauna by promoting it as medicine. Apparently some people have bought this premise but more than likely devoted pot heads whose only interest in the drug is recreational use are winning the day.
Rgardless of the question as to marijuana's possible medical benefits, there is one area where harm from its use is clear, i.e., jobs that federally mandate drug tests. Our slowly recovering economy may create the demand for workers such as mechanics, pipe fitters and commercial vehicle drivers. Pot heads who would otherwise be acceptable job applicants will never pass drug tests because due to its legal status they will certainly increase use of the drug.
People have to understand that if they want to work with certain machinery or motor vehicles they cannot have marijuana in their system. Marijuana has more of a lingering effect than other substances and can pose not only physical harm to a machine operator but also to his or her employability.
We can debate the degree to which marijuana is unnhealthy or harmful but the consequences of a failed drug test are undeniable. Being limited to working the counter at a drive in may make it difficult for pot heads to afford their habit.

Yeah! Those pot heads will be relegated to the drive-in counters rather than the glamorous, high-paying, prestigious jobs of factory worker and auto mechanic! Take THAT, stoners!
What about white-collar workers, Ray? What about telemarketers and computer programmers and stock traders? Can they do their job even if they test positive for marijuana?
You hit the nail on the head. Marijuana lingers for a long time. Which is all the more reason for smarter, better tests. If my mechanic tests positive for weed b/c he smoked pot a week ago, does that make him a worse mechanic right now while he's not stoned?
Of course not.

ive been a mechanic for yrs....been smoking pot for my own medical reasons for even longer but if you ask my boss im one of the top producers in my dept. also the one with the least rechecks my customers are happy and satisfied with my work and keep coming back the goverment banned it in the 30's to control it bottom line...what nobody understands is no matter how long you fight it its coming my generation grew up smoking pot and guess who is going into office on state and federal levels MY generation. just accept it and move on i would rather someone stoned out of their gord driving towards me than someone drunk off their ***
