Pathways.org Hosts Free Parent Info Night to Increase Child Participation Recreational Activities

All children have different abilities and talents, but some have more difficulty participating in physical and recreational activities than their peers. Pathways.org, a non-profit helping all children reach their fullest potential, is hosting an information night on Wednesday, October 24 at 6:30 pm for parents to learn more about their child’s coordination development and how to help him/her to participate in peer activities .

The session will focus on why some children are less coordinated than their peers and how this impacts their involvement in recreational and physical activities. Parents will also be able to ask questions about how a diagnosis of lack of coordination, dyspraxia, or developmental coordination disorder (DCD) impacts their child’s development.

“The goal of this information night is to help parents understand what their child is experiencing from a developmental and socio-emotional standpoint,” said Jennifer Cohen, PT, DTP a pediatric physical therapist at Pathways.org. “Our hope is that the parents will understand their child’s development and will be interested in the research program we offer to advance children’s physical and social abilities.”

Parents will receive further information about the research program offered through Pathways.org for children with coordination difficulties during the information session. The program will run January through March 2013.

The information session is free for parents to attend and will be presented by Jennifer Cohen, PT,DPT,  Anne Mohan, OTR/L, and Deborah Anderson, PT, MS, PCS. Both Jennifer and Anne are licensed therapists specializing in child development who work at Pathways.org. Deborah is an Assistant Professor and Co-Director of Clinical Education at Midwestern University who is a co-investigator of the research study. The session will be held at
