A three-part lecture series featuring popular lecturer Myra Loris. Each lecture will feature a different time period in Chicago’s history.
Wednesday, Sept. 12: Chicago, City of Pestiferous Odors! an introduction to and overview of Chicago today and its early history, primarily before 1850.
Wednesday, Oct. 17: All Roads Lead to Chicago; the Gents Who Made It Happen, a focus on the entrepreneurs and industrial commercial giants (Armour, Field, Ward, McCormick, etc.) who made Chicago the commercial center of the WORLD in the late 1800's.
Wednesday, Nov. 14: Urban Phoenix: The Fire and The Fair, a look at the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and the re-birth of the city as seen through the Columbian Exposition (World's Fair) of 1893.
Desert will be served at 7:00 PM and Ms. Loris will begin at 7:30 PM and speak for an hour. Tickets, $15 per lecture or $35 for the series, will be available at the door or by calling Sandy Bradbury (847-729-9365). Chapters 3, 8 and 9 of the Glenview Community Church Women’s Association, are sponsors the program. All proceeds will benefit social service agencies.
