Exercisers Power the Electricity at Glenview's New Eco Gym

Located at 2843 Pfingsten Rd., the new gym holds a grand opening Saturday, Oct. 19, with a DJ, obstacle course and games for kids.

At Glenview’s new Eco Gym, the treadmills help power the electricity—so the more you work out, the less electricity the gym needs to use.

Located at 2843 Pfingsten Rd. in Plaza Del Prado, the gym holds a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, according to fitness counselor Matt Newman. Glenview’s Eco Gym is the second location for the Naperville-based chain.

“We’re the first ever human and solar-powered fitness facility,” Newman told Patch.

Eco Gym offers cardio equipment, free weights and weight machines to its members, as well as boot camp, core camp and tabata class. There are also hyperbaric therapy beds, which increase the atmospheric pressure to users so that they can simulate the effects of high altitudes.

Once the gym has its security system finalized, it will be open to members twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, according to Newman. He also said that member fees decrease the more you work out, because working out helps reduce the electric bills for the gym.
