Glenview Trustees Approve $6.3M New Fire Station Downtown

Trustees voted for the larger and more expensive of two proposals for the new fire station at 1215 Waukegan Rd.

Glenview's board of trustees recently approved a $6.3 million plan for a new fire station headquarters downtown at 1215 Waukegan Rd., according to the Glenview Announcements.

Trustees chose the larger of two plans, which calls for three vehicle bays and nine firefighter bunks, the Announcements reports. The original plan only had two and a half vehicle bays and six bunks, according to city documents, and was budgeted at $5.6 million.

Fire officials argued that adding three bays, rather than two and a half, would add greater flexibility should the department need to expand in the future, because renovating the facility would actually be more expensive than building the extra space.
Glenview's new fire station will fill the site formerly occupied by the police station before it relocated to Shermer Road and West Lake Avenue. Demolition on the property was scheduled to begin Monday, according to city documents
