Rohr Chabad Will Build 'Can Menorah' to Fight Hunger

Glenview's Rohr Chabad Center will build a menorah made of cans to donate to families in need.

Glenview's Rohr Chabad Center is doing something a little special for Chanukah, which happens to overlap with Thanksgiving this year.

The center will construct a menorah made of cans of food, then place candles on top, according to a press release. When Chanukah is over, the cans will be donated to food banks for families in need.

"Chanukah teaches us that light dispels darkness," Rabbi Yishaya Benjaminson said in the release. "There's no better way of spreading light than giving food to those in need. In this way we will be including hundreds of people less fortunate than ourselves in our festival of lights."

Rohr Chabad will build the can menorah on Wednesday, Nov. 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at 701 Harlem Ave. All are welcome to attend.
