Help a Pet, Get Involved with an Animal Rescue Fundraiser!

A number of pet rescue groups are holding fundraising events in the next month. Here are a few you might check out.

I have noticed lately that the pet rescue groups are ramping up the fundraising events. I thought I’d pull some together in one place:

C.A.R.E. Evanston Animal Shelter is having a Dog Wash fundraising event on its site (2310 Oakton) September 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ten dollars to wash your dog and ten dollars for a nail trim.

Sunday, September 11, Morton Grove Animal Hospital is holding a yard sale and adoption event in its parking lot to benefit Fortunate Pooches and Lab Rescue.

Niles Animal Hospital is having a yard sale in its parking lot for the benefit of a Refuge for Saving the Wildlife, the parrot rescue where I volunteer, on September 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also on September 18 is Heartland Animal Shelter’s 5th Annual Hogs for Dogs fundraiser. Participants can visit the shelter from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The first bike out will be at 10:45 for a ride to Island Lake and a gathering at Side Outs Bar & Eatery.

Home at Last Sanctuary will be co-hosting a Canine Cancer Walk on October 1 at 9 a.m., with Glencoe Animal Hospital and Lincolnshire Animal Hospital. I hope that by then my puppy, Gibbs (see photo to the right!), will be well-enough trained and socialized to participate.

Also on October 1, Young at Heart, a group that rescues senior dogs and cats, is having its Mutt Mosey at Twin Lakes Golf and Recreation Area in Palatine. They will be starting at 9 a.m.

Wright-Way Rescue is having a Harvest for Hounds Run/Walk Fall Festival on October 8 in Niles. I adopted Gibbs from Wright-Way.

Finally, on October 9 you can go Bowling for Buddy, in support of The Buddy Foundation, will be held at the AMF Rolling Meadows Lane from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The links included here will give you more details about registering for the events, and you can always make donations on the websites. If you know of any more events, or want to share your shelter pet stories, please leave them in the comments!
