Storm Pours Down on Wagner Farm Animals

Why can't Wagner Farm, a multi-million-dollar park district facility, provide a simple, run-in shelter for the animals?

As the storm crashed through our neighborhood this morning, my kids and dogs were all afraid of the thunder, lightning and rain. But, of course, we were all safe inside the house. We weren't even going to leave for school until the storm stopped. Yet just a few miles away, animals at the Glenview Park District's Wagner Farm were needlessly suffering in the storm. Wagner Farm's cattle and horses have no protection from inclement weather - like this morning's rainstorm, lightning, and thunder - unless they are manually put into the barn. Wagner Farm Rescue Fund has requested multiple times that Wagner Farm provide a run-in shelter for these vulnerable animals. Thus far, requests have been denied.

"While Wagner Farm claims to be preserving life on the average 1920s-era farm, staff on this multi-million-dollar facility enjoy all of the modern amenities, including central heat and air conditioning, while some of the animals’ basic needs are neglected."
