MEMBERS OF THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF GLENVIEW BRAVE THE SNOW AND COLD
Members of the League of Women Voters of Glenview brave the snow and cold to join other League Members from around the state to learn about issues critical to the future of Illinois. The two primary morning presentations were Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking) in Illinois and Redistricting: What's Been Happening Since 2011? In both presentations there was a fund of information with fracking raising the concern level on the damage it can do and with Redistricting a concern that we would not be able to get this citizen initiative on the ballot to amend the constitution.
The afternoon offered various workshops covering Charter Schools: Are They Reaching Their Goals?; Gun Violence Prevention: Concealed Carry and Other News; Storm Water Project: When it Pours, it Floods; Graduated Rate Income Tax: Everything You've Wanted to Know about Strategies for Tax Fairness But Were Afraid to Ask;
Sustainable Food & Water: Plowing Through the LWVUS Agriculture Update; and Healthcare: Where ACA Stands: Controversy and Reality. Those attending the Issues Briefing were bottom row left to right: Ellen Scholly, Sheri Latash, Josie Hamilton, Jane Ballengee, middle row: Barbara Marsh, Mary-Lou Aagaard, Joan Ziegler; back row Rosanne Junge, Ann Yoshida, Mary Hummel, Janet Kittlaus, and Rosemary Heilmann.
