New Specialists Join Northwestern Medicine Glenview Outpatient Center

Northwestern Medicine today announced that dermatologist Benjamin Marks, MD, PhD, endocrinologist Emily Szmuilowicz, MD, and orthopaedics Matthew D. Saltzman, MD, and Jason Savage, MD, have joined the Glenview Outpatient Center at 2701 Patriot Boulevard in Glenview, Illinois. All four physicians are members of the medical staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and are faculty members at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

“The expansion of specialties at the Glenview Outpatient Center offers patients in the north suburbs easier access to the unparalleled care of Northwestern Medicine,” said Micah J. Eimer, MD, FACC, cardiologist and medical director of the Northwestern Medicine Glenview Outpatient Center.  “We are pleased to expand dermatology and orthopaedics and add endocrinology to the breadth of services offered in Glenview.”

“Many of the patients I and other physicians see in our Chicago offices have traveled from the suburbs for their appointments, and so I’m pleased to join the Glenview Outpatient Center and be able to see patients closer to their homes,” said Marks.  “Having primary care physicians along with a variety of specialists together in one office in Glenview is a tremendous benefit for our patients.”

Dr. Szmuilowicz is a board-certified endocrinologist.  She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency and fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.  She also holds a master’s degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.  Her clinical focus includes diabetes, thyroid disease, and general endocrinology.

“We’re pleased to bring these highly specialized services to the northern suburbs, offering the excellence of Northwestern Medicine with care and compassion in treating each patient,” said Szmuilowicz.

Saltzman is an orthopedic surgeon at Northwestern Memorial and sees patients at his office in downtown Chicago along with Glenview.  He received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and completed a residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.  He completed a fellowship at University of Washington Medical Center. His clinical focus is on arthroscopy – shoulder and elbow problems, shoulder reconstruction and replacement, rotator cuff tears, and shoulder and elbow fractures.  He is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery.

“I treat a variety of shoulder and elbow injuries, from teenagers with sports injuries to senior citizens with arthritis,” said Saltzman. “I believe in shared decision-making between physician and patients, discussing the problems in detail to come up with a solution that is right for each patient.”

Savage is an orthopaedic spine surgeon at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.  He received his medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine.  He completed a residency at Northwestern University and a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.  Savage treats a wide variety of spine pathologies, such as spine tumors, spine trauma, spinal cord injury, spinal deformity and scoliosis.

“I like to take an individual and holistic approach to the care I provide. Particularly when it comes to the spine, each individual is truly unique and the injuries impact their life in different ways,” said Savage.  “Ultimately the goal is always to improve the quality of life of our patients.”

The Northwestern Medicine Glenview Outpatient Center opened last spring with primary and specialty care physician offices and an Immediate Care Center.   The center is part of Northwestern’s expansion of clinical care in the northern suburb and is one of eight new Northwestern Medicine clinics that have opened in the past year, including centers in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, Evanston, Deerfield, Lake Forest, Glenview, Grayslake, Highland Park, and Libertyville.
