The Giving Tree Blossoms at Glenview Methodist Preschool

On Saturday, March 8, 2014, Glenview Methodist Preschool ("GMPS") and its indefatigable Benefits Committee chaired by Maria Stephan and Morgan Daley, hosted GMPS's annual Spring Fling Benefit at the Valley Lo Club in Glenview, Illinois. Themed, "The Giving Tree" after Shel Silverstein's poignant story about enduring affection and boundless generosity, the parents, teachers and friends of GMPS gathered for an evening of fun and fundraising in support of the school and its students. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres launched the evening festivities at 7 p.m., but the real fun began at 8:00 p.m. when bidding in the Silent Auction commenced. Items generously donated, most by area businesses, were gathered through the tireless efforts of the school's Donations Committee headed by Donations Chairman Melissa Dahlquist, and were auctioned by silent auction, including sport and entertainment venue tickets, themed parties hosted by GMPS parents and teachers, wine baskets, spa packages, jewelry, gym memberships, classes, consulting/tutoring/personal services, resort packages and much, much more. The venue was beautifully decorated around a real giving tree, from which hung paper apples setting forth various needs of the school, each of which was met when attendees volunteered to sponsor the purchase of the items noted on apples they picked. In addition to the silent auction, there was a Grand Raffle with a first prize of a night at the Peninsula Hotel accompanied by a $500 gift card and round trip limo service downtown, and a second prize of $500. Thanks to the generosity of GMPS Donations Committee member Sasha Gerritson and Kellogg Company, attendees left the event with gift bags highlighted by a hard cover copy of "The Giving Tree", Brookfield Zoo tickets, Apple Jacks cereal, and a mission to enrich the lives of their children by reading with them. It was a wonderful event for GMPS families, well-supported by the larger community of Glenview and surrounding areas.

GMPS is an NAEYC-accredited, non-denominational, play-based, early childhood program providing a safe and nurturing environment for all young children on the path to autonomy. GMPS has openings for 2 ½’s, 3’s and 4’s in the 2014-2015 year.
