Coyote Carries Off Small Dog in Glenview

Pebbles was outside with her sister when they encountered two coyotes and hasn't been seen since.

Neighbors in the area of Roosevelt Avenue and Pinehurst Drive woke Monday morning to a woman frantically screaming after a coyote ran off with her family’s small dog, CBS Chicago is reporting. The incident happened around 6:15 a.m.

Pebbles, a 4-year-old, four-pound Yorkie, hasn’t been found, the station says. Pebble’s sister, Paxil, was unharmed.

The owner, who did not want to be identified by name when speaking with ABC7, said he hopes other dog owners take heed and don’t let their pets out without a leash.

Neighbors said they’ve seen coyotes in the area before, ABC7 reports. There were a second coyote with the one who grabbed Pebbles on Monday.

There is a reason why the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources considers coyotes to be vermin. They CAN BE SHOT ON SIGHT WITH A RIFLE, SHOTGUN OR BOW & ARROW 365 DAYS A YEAR. If you own a firearm and see a coyote, do everyone a favor and KILL IT.

Hey Jordan, Before you make a dumb comment, try studying coyotes first. Coyotes are pack animals with an alpha male at the head of the pack structure. The other males in the pack will not mate while the alpha male is in charge. Kill the alpha male and all the other males will start mating, increasing the number of coyotes. Coyotes are an important part of the ecosphere, keeping other animal pests in check. They are not a danger to humans. Apparently, your NRA brainwashing has taught you that shooting first is is the solution to everything.

Richard.....killing vermin has been a standard practice for years. I would have no hesitation about picking up my SCAR 16 or another AR15 type rifle and dispatching a coyote that was threatening a neighbors child or pet. The fact that you don't understand that makes you sir dumber than a stump and not worthy of having a discussion with. Besides that your libritard facist attitude towards citizens legally owning firearms is repugnant.

JORDAN, you ass! It's not the Coyotes fault we had encroached their environment! People need to be more diligent with their pets as coyotes are needed as they are too an important part of our environment. THEY WERE HERE FIRST and if people are stupid enough to let their pets out without any supervision, they that's the consequence they take. I'm a HUGE animal lover and it hurts to see stuff like this. But in the meantime, we need our natural predators to balance our delicate eco system. Don't think your gun solution is very smart and it gives off the wrong idea. Jordan, I think your the one who's dumber than a stump for not researching out how important it is to keep things in balance. Guns are not always the best or right solution. It's to protect or defend and shooting a coyote because he doesn't know what to hunt and what not to hunt? Yeah, your smart..... Thank you RICHARD! But like me, you are preaching on deaf ears. I think Jordan has the little dog syndrome?!?!

Killing vermin is clearly sanctioned by IDNR and is the course of action that we are entitled to take. Ali if you don't like it do what you will I will exercise my right to kill them period.

Ali....feel free to take a look at another post I just put up. Coyote fur makes for really great fur hats.

If you happen to be interested, here is a really good video that demonstrates the proper technique to use to skin a coyote so you don't waste a kill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWXotuLDsWY

You're missing the point! We don't NEED to do this!!!But Richard is correct. If you kill the alpha male, then there will be an abundance of coyotes! With that being said, you are unbalancing our precious eco system! Look what's happening to the deer population? Rabbits? Skunks? Should we shoot them too now because we wiped out their natural predator? We as humans and I include you specifically, has ego issues with nature and balance. We are not our natives Americans and we don't count on the animal for survival. This is merely an ego issue you with you and guns. What you said was cruel and no compassion. While I do have extreme compassion for peoples pets, I also believe that now people with small pets/dogs/cats need to be more diligent with their pets and leaving them outside for an easy food source. The coyotes will be forced to go after their own prey, rabbits, squirrels ans such. I don't care about the proper technique. Use that for people who NEED to do that. We now have to learn to live with these precious animals and alter OUR life style. It's not their fault, it's ours. We can live with the foxes and coyotes if we are aware of the precautions. We NEED them. Please, understand that. Save your guns for the shooting range or if someone breaks into your home! A friend of mine is a certified teacher for conceal and carry too. But no way does he come off as strong as you do. He respects the environment and has the same feelings as I do about the natural balance. He sets up targets in his back yard when he wants to shoot. Nothing wrong with that. I don't understand why you have this mentality with your guns. This is how people get hurt. They have the same ego as you do and it's strictly for intimidation and an ego boost. Please this is not something to joke around with. You send the wrong message about wild life. If we would stop interfering with their habitat, we wouldn't have to worry about it. We are not the superior specious and we have no right to interfere with the balance of nature. This is OUR environment and I'm appalled at the fact people like you take it for granted. Think about that!

Ali.....we don't agree and there is nothing in the world that would cause me to ascribe an iota of credence to your thoughts. Concealed carry has nothing to do with killing vermin. Think about getting yourself a coyote fur hat. I am certainly not joking around if the circumstance presents itself I will shoot.
Ali January 17, 2014 at 03:35 PM
Jordan, good luck to you and the single mind of yours. You're the one that is bringing up the conceal and carry. I'm simply talking about saving a huge part of a well needed ecosystem and preventing moron's like yourself from destroying it. Either, with a gun, bow an arrow or however you would want to destroy an animal. (cruel) To me you're more of a nuisance, than a pesky mosquito! And people with your mentality scare me and should NOT be walking around with guns!!!
