Former Glenview Resident Receives Award From Italy

Padua region government honors John Baggio for his accomplishments in graphic design business.

The Padua, Italy Chamber of Commerce has honored former Glenview resident John Baggio with its Gold Medal award for his accomplishments in running a graphic design business, Baggio Studios, with his wife Rita.

The award recognizes natives of the region who have moved to other parts of the world and distinguished themselves in the fields of art, culture, education and various other disciplines. The Padua Chamber of Commerce issued a statement saying, "P. John Baggio, born in Chicago of parents from the province of Padua, with a degree in graphic design, has worked in the field of package design and commercial graphics for over 35 years."

Baggio Studios provides graphic design for promotional materials, package design and corporate identity. It also provides fine arts, such as portraits, murals and architectural renderings.

Baggio's late parents, Guido and Bianca, were both born and raised in the Padova/Veneto regions of Italy, emigrated to the United States in the 1940s and moved to Niles in the 1970s. John and Rita Baggio then moved to Park Ridge and Glenview and live in Prospect Heights.

Another Chicago-area resident who received the award in a previous year, Thomas Tartaglia, an attorney from River Grove, said, "Receiving the award connected me to the land of my mother and father's youth that I never had the opportunity to visit. I was fortunate to have my cousin appear on my behalf to accept the award and it wasn't until after speaking to him about the event that I realized how significant an honor it was to be included in the group of recipients from all over the world."
