Glenview Doctor Offers Free Medical Exams to City Homeless

On Wednesday night, Dr. Simon Lee, who lives in Glenview, will take part in the Soles for Souls program for the fifth year.

Dr. Simon Lee lives in Glenview and practices medicine in Chicago at the Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. For the fifth year in a row, he will take part in the national Soles for Souls program, which provides free footwear for people in need.

"For those of us who live in Glenview, we don't see a lot of homeless people and some of us don't know what kind of problems they face," Lee said.

With the help of Dr. Johnny Lin, Lee's colleague and fellow foot and ankle specialist, the doctors will perform medical exams and distribute water-proof shoes and socks to homeless men and women at the Franciscan House of Mary and Joseph, a shelter on Chicago's west side.

"I have people who come back yearly and tell me how grateful they are to have water-proof shoes," Lee said. "They're out there all day in winter, even when it's raining and in the cold."
