Glenview Resident William Attea Honored for Service

Family Service Center celebrated a century of service by sharing the spotlight with the 2013 Heart of the Family Award recipients: Erika's Lighthouse of Winnetka and Glenview's Attea.

Wilmette-based Family Service Center celebrated a century of providing counseling and educational services for families and people in need by sharing the spotlight with the two recipients of the 2013 Heart of the Family Award: Glenview resident William Attea and Erika’s Lighthouse of Winnetka, a nonprofit dedicated to education about childhood and adolescent depression, Northbrook Star reported.

Attea, who has a junior high school named after him, Attea Middle School, said he was honored but that it takes a community to raise a child and a community to build a community. While Erika’s Lighthouse co-founders Ginny and Tom Neuckranz started the nonprofit after their 14-year-old daughter took her life nine years ago and hopes to empower kids to get depression out of the dark, Northbrook Star reported.
