Glenview Saves $2.1M With Electric Aggregation

In the first five month's of Glenview's electric aggregation program, residents and small businesses saved, on average, more than $100 per month.

In the first five month's of Glenview's new electric aggregation program, residents and small businesses saved about $2.1 million, according to a village release, compared to what customers would have spent with ComEd service.

Following voter approval of a November 2012 referendum that allowed Glenview to establish an electric aggregation program on behalf of its residents and small businesses, the Village Board of Trustees approved an intergovernmental agreement to join the Lakeshore Power Alliance, a consortium with Wilmette, Northfield and Kenilworth that provides an electricity supply rate through MC Squared Energy Services. Implementation began in January 2013 at the rate of 4.035 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh).

The savings represent Glenview's electric usage rates from January 2013 to May 2013. The Village's program equates to an average savings of $148 for resident households and $101 for small businesses over the five-month period.

Beginning June 1, 2013 through May 31, 2014, the second-year price of 4.977 cents for kilowatt-hour is in effect. This is expected to generate approximately 17 percent savings for residents and small businesses compared to ComEd rates during year two of the three-year contract with MC Squared.
