The Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America, the American Legion and others came out to Jackman Park in Glenview to retire an American flag.

In what has become an annual Flag Day tradition, nearly 100 people turned out to watch an American flag retirement ceremony in June 14.

Community groups from around the North Shore—including the Knights of Columbus, , Boy Scouts of American Troop 175 from Niles and Cub Scouts from the , came together for the park's 10th flag retirement ceremony.

"It's very important because the younger generation only learns from the older people," Larry Theriault, Past Faithful Navigator for the Knights of Columbus in Glenview said. "If we want these kids to have respect for the flag, if want them to have respect for what this country stands for and what those have given up their life for, then we have to teach them."
