Snow Alert: Slow Down As You Race Home for the Weekend

Expect lake effect snow to slow down your commute Friday night. Illinois Tollway's snow response is expected to focus on I-294/I-80.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook through Friday evening.

Snow will continue through Friday evening with two to four inches of snow accumulation possible. If you’re heading home, heavy lake effect snow will occur Friday night with accumulations in excess of 6 inches.

Wind chills are also expected to drop below zero Friday night over northern Illinois—the first time this winter. The wind gusts are predicted to whirl at speeds as high as 40 mph.

Our friends at the Illinois Tollway have also sent an email blast to news media informing us that tollway's full feet of 183 snowplow trucks will be out in force, throughout the Friday afternoon rush hour.

The tollway's Snow Operations Center will manage the systemwide snow response with a focus on the south Tri-State Tollway (I-294/I-80), which is expected to be the most impacted by the snow.
