Glenview Under T-Storm, Flash Flood Watches (UPDATED)

The storms could produce hail up to two inches in diameter, wind gusts in excess of 70 mph, torrential rainfall and localized flooding, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and the possibility of a tornado.

7:06 p.m. Monday, June 30—The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Glenview and the North Shore area until 9 p.m. Monday. A flash flood watch also is in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Strong storms could hit the suburbs Monday afternoon and evening bringing with large hail, strong winds and the possibility of a tornado, according to the National Weather Service. 

A hazardous outlook has been issued for Cook, Lake, McHenry, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Grundy and Will counties for Monday with thunderstorms expected to develop this afternoon in areas west of the Mississippi River.

The storms will then move into north central Illinois later this afternoon before heading east across the remainder of the outlook area this evening. 

The storms could produce hail up to two inches in diameter, wind gusts in excess of 70 mph, torrential rainfall and localized flooding, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and the possibility of a tornado. 

Thunderstorms are expected to diminish Monday night and gradually move east of the area after midnight. 

The National Weather Service is encouraging residents to monitor forecasts and be prepared for possible warnings today.
