VIDEO: Glenview Farmers Market Takes a Trip to the Farm

Farmers Market Finds 7/16 & a trip to Wagner Farm

Saturday was a great day for the Glenview Farmers Market! Not only were we blessed with beautiful weather, but we got to experience up close and personal as we held the market right on the farm grounds.  And when I say up close and personal, I mean I have never been so close to pigs, cows, sheep and even a wily rooster (I am a city-girl by nature).

It was so interesting to see the inner-workings of the farm and all  the hard work it takes to raise and care for the animals. Our experience on the farm grounds gave the market an authenticity and connection to nature that we had not experienced before. You could get a small sense of life on the farm, with all the sounds and smells and grass under your feet.

And this connection really made me appreciate all the wonderful produce the farmers bring every week. This week we saw the first site of peaches, an abundance of tart cherries (my cherry of choice for Rustic Cherry Tart), all sorts of berries, the beginnings of non-hot house tomatoes and fresh corn. And of course, plentiful fresh herbs, zucchini, squash, lettuce and carrots. I purchased some ripe black raspberries from , which I plan to make into jam. Nothing is better than a little dab of fresh berry jam on your toast in winter to remind you that summer and the sun will soon return.  I also bought some great zucchini, cherries and blueberries. Check out my Wednesday blog for my plans on how to utilize the produce and some recipes. Till then, see you at the market...
