Crain's Reports Layoffs Coming for Companies Including Sun-Times Media and Walgreen's

Nearly 1,200 jobs could be lost at prominent companies.

Nine companies are reportedly preparing for nearly 1,200 layoffs throughout Illinois, including Sun-Times Media, Walgreen's and Kmart, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

Sun-Times Media, publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times and other suburban papers, warns that 274 jobs in Glenview, Tinley Park and Aurora could be eliminated due to consolidation.

Deerfield-based Walgreen's, which reported strong January sales due to the bad flu season, will reportedly lay off 65 warehouse workers in west suburban Berkeley. Kmart, part of Hoffman Estates-based Sears Holdings Corp., plans to lay off 98 employees when it closes a Naperville store in the spring, Crain's reported .
