Ever Drank A $3,250 Scotch?

D'artagnan's Cellar is a small shop on the north end of the Carillon Square shopping center in Glenview that specializes in rare and expensive spirits.

D'artagnan's Cellar is a small shop on the north end of the Carillon Square shopping center in Glenview, owned and operated by Paul Bauman, a 73-year-old Niles resident.

The shop specializes in rare and expensive cognacs, armagnacs and single malt Scotch whiskies, including 40-year-old Bunnahabhain Scotch, of which only 80 bottles are available in Illinois.

"Most of the stuff here is unique and unusual," Bauman said. "Most of the stuff here isn't in regular liquor stores."

Bunnahabhain is only available by order and there are no samples available, but Bauman's customers do get to try other spirits at the shop.

"It's kind of hard to buy a $500 bottle of liquor and not try it before you buy it," Bauman said.

His most affordable single malt, Speyside, is available for about $50, and Bauman says it's a great starting point for people curious about exploring new and different whiskies.

"It's a lot of fun teaching people how to drink," he said. "You can't go to that $500 bottle instantly."
