Heinen's Grocery Store Almost Approved

A 43,915-square foot Heinen's Fine Foods is proposed for the 3-acre site of the former Dominick's grocery store at 1020 Waukegan Road. The plans for the new store go before the Village Board of Trustees for consideration on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 1225 Waukegan Road. 


The Plan Commission on July 23 recommended that the proposed store receive a conditional use, final site plan and preliminary subdivision, and recommended parking lot redevelopment to the adjacent row of shops along the 1700 block of Glenview Road, to facilitate truck and shopper access.

Should the Village Board approve the Plan Commission's recommendations on Tuesday, the last step would be for final documentation for the project to be submitted to the Appearance Commission, which is a precondition for issuance of the final building permit.

Construction on the new store will likely begin fall 2013.
