Magic Brews at Glenview's Club House

The Chicago Clubhouse on Waukegan Road is the one stop shopping and tournament destination for fans of Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons.

The Chicago Club House is not your typical, North Shore club. It's not designed for people with yachts or exclusive memberships. Rather, it invites people of all ages to play strategy card and board games with one another.

"We're a store for players by players," said owner Jon Richter.

The store, which specializes in card games such as Magic: The Gathering and board games like Dungeons and Dragons, offers daily tournaments for gaming fans who want to compete.

"I saw how other card stores were doing business and people were kind of detached," Richter said. "Having a smaller store is a way we can interact with our customers in a way that will keep them coming back."

"We're kind of forcing people to interact with one another," he added.

Patrons can play free video games, an original Simpsons arcade, or stop by with their Magic deck and go head-to-head with another club member.

According to Richter, club house visitors range from ages 8 to 80.

"We have gaming grandpas that come in and play Magic or D&D," he said.

The store opened in December 2012 and runs mostly on selling valuable, individual cards or game pieces. The store is open every day, from noon to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday and noon to 7:00 p.m. on Sundays.
