Music Legend Arrives Here Saturday

Meet Clive Davis, the superstar recording industry exec who launched the careers of Whitney Houston, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and dozens more, at Menchie's in Glenview and Park Ridge. Win a chance to audition for him.

Clive Davis, the Grammy-winning music industry exec, hitmaker and discoverer of some of the most famous names in music, is coming to Glenview and Park Ridge on Saturday to sign copies of his recently-released biography.

You may know Davis' name, because he has shaped American music since the mid-1970s. Even if you don't, you 'll know the stars he discovered and made famous. They include Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin and...maybe you.

Davis will appear at Menchie's Frozen Yogurt 110 N. Northwest Highway in Park Ridge, because he's a pal of Randy Sturges, the franchise owner of the Park Ridge shop.

"I met him through entertainment friends 20 years ago and we've been best friends since," said Sturges, who lives in California.

Sturges said Davis will also stop by the Glenview location of Menchie's, but the auditions and most of the interaction would be at the Park Ridge shop.

Between now and Saturday, customers can drop their names in a pink raffle box which sits on Menchie's counter, and the shop will draw the name of a winner who will get 15 minutes to spend with Davis. The winner can choose to audition for Davis, or just chat with him about the glittery world of the celebrities he has made famous.

Davis will arrive at the shop at about 2:15 and spend time with the raffle winners. At 3 p.m., he will sign copies of his recently-released book, The Soundtrack of My Life. The store will be selling copies for $20, and it's okay to bring your own copy if you have already purchased it.
