Shoppers' Debit Cards Scammed at Local Michael's Stores

The chain has a Glenview location on Willow Road

Dozens of customers who used their debit cards at the 35 craft stores in the Chicago area, including the Glenview location at 2231 Willow Road, have each had about $500 stolen from their bank accounts.

The thieves may have tampered with PIN pads at the stores, according to news reports, altering them in order to record shoppers' debit card passwords.

Most of the victims saw unauthorized withdrawals of $503 from the bank accounts connected to their debit cards--a $500 withdrawal and a $3 fee.
