Raising Confident Children

There are an infinite number of reasons a child may be bullied - and, unfortunately, certain factors can cause a child to be at greater risk for unwanted attention from peers. However, not all children will experience bullying, and not all children will be bullies - what sets these children apart is healthy self-esteem. Focus on building your child's confidence, regardless of traits that may be singled out by bullish peers. Confidence will help your child build a positive relationship with themselves, which will function as a foundation for their self-esteem during adolescence and adulthood. As a parent, there are a lot of ways to help your child form a positive self-image; for instance, when discussing your child's insecurities, focus on the things you can do to improve upon them. Focus on teaching health and happiness. Also, work with your child to develop healthy eating, sleeping, and exercise habits. Your child will look to the habits you display in the home, so make sure that you practice the healthy habits you'll be teaching.
