PHOTOS: Pizano's Charity Event Brings Together Family of Two Local Legends

Annual event raises money for Children's Memorial Hospital in honor of broadcaster Jack Brickhouse and restaurateur Rudy Malnati Sr.

Patricia Brickhouse and Rudy Malnati Jr. were joined by friends and supporters Monday night at on Waukegan Road in Glenview--one of three Pizano's owned by Malnati Jr.--to honor two Chicago legends and raise money for Children's Memorial Hosipital.

This was the third annual event organized by Patricia Brickhouse, widow of broadcaster Jack Brickhouse, and Rudy Malnati Jr., son of restauranteur and Chicago-style pizza inventor Rudy Malnati Sr.

"It feels great to have everyone here," said Malnati Jr. Malnati lost two brothers and his father to cancer and the money raised directly benefits research, he said. Jack Brickhouse also died as a result of a brain tumor.

"Rudy met me at a place downtown and he said to me, 'we've got to do something for Jack', and that's how it all started," Pat Brickhouse said. After thinking about it, supporting cancer research seemed the most appropriate cause, she added.

Guests to the event paid $35/person, $15 for kids under 12, and enjoyed an open bar, Italian buffet style dinner, live music, a raffle, and an auction of autographed sports memorabilia. Celebrity bartenders included the Bears' Bob Avellini, the Blackhawk Ice Girls, Bulls legend Bob Love, Fred Mitchell of the Chicago Tribune, Bill Zwecker of the Chicago Sun-Times, radio host Kevin Moore, and several others.
