PHOTOS: Glenbrook South Marks Golden Anniversary

Weekend luncheon and variety show brings together current and former students along with faculty and local politicians to celebrate five decades of education.

commemorated its golden anniversary over the weekend with an afternoon luncheon and variety show. Over a thousand guests gathered for the event, bringing together many former and current students and faculty.

The afternoon began with a meal in the school's field house. Student Council President Merrick Topping led guests in a rendition of "Happy Birthday" in the school's honor. Several speakers took to the podium during the event, among them Representative Bob Dold, State Representative Daniel Biss and GBS Principal Brian Wegley.

After lunch, guests moved to the school's auditorium for a further presentation and the variety show. There, Village President Kerry Cumming read a proclamation from the village marking the school's golden anniversary. Superintendent Mike Riggle also spoke about the history of the school before guests were treated to a video commemorating the school's anniversary. 

The highlight of the day by far was the variety show, which involved hundreds of students and faculty and included nearly 40 different acts.

"I am thrilled at the turnout from our community, our alumni, and our former and current staff," said GBS Principal Brian Wegley. "We've taken this 50th year celebration very seriously because we truly have so much to be thankful for."
