Glenview, Niles, Still Clashing Over Water Bill

The villages of Glenview and Niles have a legal fight going on over payments for water that Niles supplies to a Glenview-owned water utility company called North Maine Utility. 

A Cook County judge recently ruled Niles overcharged Glenview from April 2010 to July 2011; Niles acknowledges overcharging Glenview about $1.1 million, bringing the amount Niles says Glenview still owes to about $8.2 million, Chicago Tribune reported.

The villages have an agreement that says Glenview should pay the lowest rate that Niles charges but a judge ruled on March 12 that Niles breached a clause in the contract when it offered 74 Niles residents a 19 percent rebate to cover past sewer charges; Niles is still trying to recover payments that Glenview stopped in 2011, Chicago Tribune reported.
