Monday's knocked out power to more than 600,000 customers throughout the Chicagoland area and nearly 200,000 in ComEd’s northern region.

In Glenview, 4,600 residents lost power and as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, 1,960 remained without power;  ComEd reported. A spokesperson for the company said that ComEd hopes to have by noon on Friday and 99 percent up and running by 5 p.m. Sunday.

"As ComEd crews continue work, the utility advises that some areas may experience power fluctuations over the next couple of hours related to switching of circuits," Village Communications Director Lynne Stiefel said in an e-mail this morning.

In the last month, Glenview has had quite a few blackouts. A cut power to more than 400,000 customers in the Chicago region, 6,800 of those outages in Glenview. And, on June 30, when a ComEd circuit supplying power to Glenview, Northbrook, Deerfield and Northfield Township was damaged by an evening storm.

Of the four affected feeder lines in Glenview, ComEd crews have begun to work on three, officials said yesterday.

"It appears two large feeder lines outside of Glenview that bring power to Glenview customers are being worked on, and it’s believed that work will restore power to a larger number of Glenview customers by early this evening," Stiefel said.

In the northern region, ComEd officials have reported that 47 outside contractors are currently assisting with repairs—116 are expected by the end of the day—and more than 300 by midday Wednesday.

Public works crews will be picking up storm debris through Friday. Residents are asked to collect tree limbs and place them at the curb for easy access.

Village officials are reminding residents that while ComEd will repair damage leading up to homes, they will not fix the poles—called risers—that connect power to electrical boxes mounted on the home’s outside. This is the homeowner’s responsibility and more information can be found on ComEd’s website.

Damage cost to the village from Monday’s storm hasn’t been assessed yet, according to Stiefel, but officials don’t anticipate any sticker shock.

“There has been very little overtime necessary for emergency personnel connected with this storm, so it will probably be minimal,” she said in an e-mail this afternoon.
