World Series Pitcher George Kontos To Visit Glenview

Kontos, who went to Niles West High School, is scheduled to teach a pitching clinic at Strike Zone in Glenview on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

George Kontos, the San Francisco Giants' pitcher and World Series champ, is scheduled to visit Glenview's Strike Zone to teach a pitching clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 9, according to a Stirke Zone press release.

“George is a great role model for our players. He’s an athlete from the area who has achieved great things due to excellent training and a strong work
ethic,” Strike Zone President John Fix said in the release. “Due to our high-level coaching staff and guest instructors, many of our students have gone on to become professional and D1 college players.”

Kontos is a native of Lincolnwood and was Illinois’ baseball player of the year in 2003 while at Niles West High School.

Kontos will teach two pitching clinics for athletes ages 10 to 14.

Stike Zone has two clinics for the age group. Session 1 will take place Tuesdays, Jan. 8 to 29 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Session 2 will take place Fridays, Jan. 11 to Feb. 1 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Both sessions cost $385 each.

Space at the clinics is very limited. Each participant will receive personalized coaching in pitching fundamentals with a current MLB player, a t-shirt and two open cage coupons redeemable at either Strike Zone location.
