History is not destiny

“History is not destiny” is significant in that it gives you the capacity to be true and real to you, not out of fate, but out of choice.

The idea for this title comes from watching and listening to many tapes of Stephen Covey speaking about life, and principles. “History is not destiny” is significant in that it gives you the capacity to be true and real to you, not out of fate, but out of choice. In his book, “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”, Stephen Covey says that, “You are not your experiences, you are how you react to your experiences” and that could not be more true.

Are you unhappy with your weight?

Are you unhappy with your life overall?

Do you love your spouse and family?

Are you happy with your job or career?

The cool thing if any of these things are how you feel or what you want to feel, you can start making choices to move towards them. Do you want a better body or life? Start making choices to move in that direction and not choices that move you away. Do you love your family and career? Then continue to make choices that make them a priority and not choices that lead you astray. Life is an interesting little game we play and each move, each fake, each reaction is a choice that we have the right to express. Remember that history is not destiny. You can learn from your past, be effected by your past, or even be hindered by your past but it is just that … your past! The choice you make right now defines you, not the choice you made yesterday. History is not destiny.
