Glenview Church Hosts Second Free Do-It-Yourself Messiah Sat. Dec. 14, 7:30 pm

Sing along or just enjoy the Do-It-Yourself G. F. Handel’s Messiah (Christmas portion) and holiday carols on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm Street (at Glenview Road).

The free event, featuring the Glenview Community Church Chancel Choir, soloists and the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra, with guest organist James Winfield, is part of the Simple Gift Concert Series by the Glenview Community Church (GCC).  Musical scores are available to borrow and/or purchase.

This Holiday Special offered for the north shore and beyond is coordinated by
Director of Music Gary Wendt and conducted by Adult Choir Director Stephen
Blackwelder.

“The ‘Do-It-Yourself’ idea, born at a small church in rural England more than 30
years ago, was first staged in Chicago in 1976 by the International Music Foundation,” states Blackwelder.  “It gives choral singers across the globe a chance to join their voices in an “instant chorus” of hundreds -- in most cases, and accompanied with full orchestra as we do here.”

Glenview Community Church is handicap accessible and has onsite parking.  It is 3 blocks west of the Glenview train station.
