A Gift for Mom, A Gift for Your Community

Need another reason besides Mother’s Day to pamper that special woman in your life? How about the fact that a number of great gift packages are available that benefit local charities as well?

Northbrook Court and Make It Better magazine have partnered to launch “celebrate mom beCause,” a program to help gift-givers find the perfect Mother’s Day presents while contributing funds to two local charities – Family Service: Prevention, Education and Counseling, and the Greater Illinois Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“‘celebrate mom beCause’ is an exciting opportunity for people to give back to their community while treating their moms and wives this Mother’s Day,” said Stacy Kolios, marketing manager for Northbrook Court. “The Northbrook Court community has really risen to the occasion with some amazing gift packages, all of which will generate much-needed funds for our worthy charity partners.”

The North Shore’s premiere shopping destination and leading community magazine aim to raise more than $20,000 through the sale of 101 gift packages generously donated by Northbrook Court retailers, restaurants and businesses. Gift items range from restaurant and movie gift cards to spa treatments, personal shopping vouchers and certificates for Zumba and cooking classes. All of the gift packages are featured in the April Issue of Make it Better magazine as well as online at www.makeitbetter.net/beCause. Prices range from $75-$250.

Additionally, one lucky mom will receive a Tiffany & Co. Exclusive Pamper Package, featuring a Tiffany Metro diamond bangle and a Red Door Spa signature facial, massage, manicure and pedicure. This package already sold, raising $5,500 to be split between the designated charities.

“Family Service: Prevention, Education and Counseling has been providing high-quality, effective social services to area residents for the past 82 years,” said Paul Dean, executive director for the organization, which provides counseling, specialized services for seniors and caregivers, and programs for Latino students and their families. “It’s through the generosity of area residents, coming together through Northbrook Court and Make It Better magazine, that we're able to continue to serve the nearly 6,000 clients and families we reach annually with low- and no-cost programs.”

The number of people served by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is equally significant.

“Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission is to find a cure for the disease and improve the quality of life for those with cystic fibrosis,” said David Oshinski, development director for the organization. “We urgently need the public’s continued support to fulfill our mission of funding life-saving research and working to provide access to quality care and effective therapies.”
