Local Dry Cleaners Helps Girls Experience Prom in Style

Zengeler Cleaners stores across the northern suburbs are collecting prom dresses and accessories for the Glass Slipper Project. They're hoping to collect 4,000 dresses this year.

The next time you drop off your stained shirts and worn sweaters at the dry cleaners, you can also do something much less mundane: help a Chicago Public School student get decked out to enjoy prom.

Zengeler Cleaners has partnered with the Glass Slipper Project for the past 12 years, offering its eight stores as a drop-off location for prom dresses and accessories that will go to students who get to choose their attire for free at “boutiques” in the spring.

Zengeler’s, with stores in Deerfield, Hubbard Woods, Northfield, Winnetka, Long Grove, two in Libertyville and its headquarters store in Northbrook, collected 3,500 dresses last year along with hundreds of pairs of shoes and lots of jewelry and accessories.

“Our goal for this year is to collect approximately 4,000 dresses – a lofty goal, but one we’re confident can be met with the continued support of local schools and the local business community,” company President Tom Zengeler said in a post on Patch.
