This Weird Experiment Works Because It's Freezing on the North Shore

What happens when you throw boiling water into extremely cold air?

This is what happens when you expose boiling water to extreme cold. This video was shot in Skokie, where it is currently -13 degrees.

Dr. Ainissa Ramirez, a scientist and author, explains that the hot water instantly freezes and turns to small ice crystals when it's exposed to very cold air, according to Huffington Post.

"The same can happen if you toss out water from a cup from the ledge of the building. The people below will never feel it, because the water will freeze on the way down (to something like snow)," Ramirez wrote in an email to The Huffington Post.

Try this experiment with your family while you're cooped up in the house today!
