Semir “Sam” Alwan, 46, a Glenview resident by way of Plzen, Czech Republic passed away peacefully on October 1, 2013 surrounded by dear family and friends in Glenview.
Cherished husband of of Irene nee Zurek; proud father of Alexander, Alena, and Adam; devoted son of Abdul (Eva) Alwan and Miroslava (the late Jan) Derka; loving son-in-law of Janina and the late Wladyslaw Zurek; dear brother of John (Gail) and Michael (Abby); caring brother-in-law of Christopher (Krystyna) Zurek and Maria (Zbigniew) Motta; fond uncle of Peter (Julia) Motta, Elizabeth (Patrick) Hozian, Paul Motta, Anna (Billy) Quinley, Erik Zurek, and Jordan, Kameron, and Logan Alwan; Great-Uncle to Nikoli and Konrad Hozian; Alex and Gloria Motta and cousin to many.
A great friend and “rock” to many, he lit up the room with his larger than life personality and sense of humor. Sam had a tremendous work ethic and enjo2yed his work immensely in the Information Technology field.
Along with being a successful entrepreneur, who started and ran his own business for twenty years, he had also been employed at Schawk! and Motorola.
Sam enjoyed the outdoors - biking, hiking, tennis, volleyball, golfing, and skiing. He was a family man -- a devoted father and loving husband who encouraged his children to work hard, follow their hearts and stay steadfast in their faith. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation Friday 4:00 to 9:00 PM at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Niles. Funeral service will take place on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from funeral home to St. Catherine Laboure Church for 10:30 mass.
