Neal Pagano touched the lives of people across the North Shore, judging by the online tributes that have poured in since his death Oct. 14 in an accident in his back yard. Many point to his sense of humor and dedication to the community.
More than 50 people have left their condolences in the guest book on Legacy.com for Pagano. Others wrote into the comments section on Patch stories.
Here is a sampling of what his friends and neighbors are saying.
From Claudia Casey Hippel of Lake Forest:
Neal made people feel like they mattered every time he saw them. He always took the time to say hello and remembered something to connect with them about. I went to highschool with Neal and am so sad the world has lost such a kind, giving man. He has touched so many lives. He is the modern day Jimmy Stewart (a.k.a. George Bailey) from "It's a Wonderful Life." The final quote from that movie was "No man is a failure who has friends" -- Neal had a million. God bless your sweet family and those sweet kids. I lost my father at 8 and have the fondest memories. Your kids will rise to live to their father's dreams. I wish you all well and enjoy your family's sweet memories. We all will.
From Patty and Jon Sands of Morton Grove:
We will never forget the trip to Cooperstown with you and Neal. We had so much fun. Neal made me laugh so hard so many times. I will always remember him with a smile on my face.
From the Canary family:
We will all miss Neal. Always quick with a smile and a witty remark.
Our deepest sympathy to Kathy and the Boys.
From Patch commenter Raleigh Road:
We mourn with his wonderful wife and three great sons and hope to help them any way we can.
From Patch commenter Doyle Lanphere:
Neal was a great friend and very involved in his kids athletics in Glenview. He spent many a day at the ice rink and at the baseball field. Glenview lost a great man. You will live on in our memories.
