They know that Illinois cannot sustain a cut of $2 billion this year and $5 billion next year without further draconian cuts to public safety, education, and other important services.
They know that Illinois families cannot afford the higher property taxes that could result to replace funds for these critical services.
They know that Illinois must meet its responsibilities while being fair to Illinois’ families by asking those with high incomes to pay more and giving a tax break to those who earn less. This would put money in the pockets of middle class families to help boost local economies and grow jobs.

Senator Don Harmon has introduced a rate schedule to provide a tax break to the 94% of Illinois taxpayers earning under $205,000. This rate schedule proposes 3 marginal tax rates-
2.9% on the first $12,500 of one’s taxable income,
4.9% on the next $167,500 of one’s income (up to $180,00),
and 6.9% on any income above $180,000.
The Illinois Fair Tax Calculator allows citizens to determine their tax savings or additional tax burden in a matter of seconds. Please go to www.FairTaxCut.com to see what you might save.
